HISTORY OF THE FACULTY

The Faculty of Economics was founded in 1977 as one of two faculties of Sumy Branch of Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after V.V. Dokuchaiev.

The first enrollment of students at the Faculty of Economics of Sumy Branch of Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after V.V. Dokuchaiev took place in 1977 with the total number of students – 50, including the specialities: economics and organization of agricultural production – 25 students; accounting in agriculture -25 students.

The total student body of the Faculty of Economics in the first three years after the foundation of Sumy Branch of Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after V.V. Dokuchaiev was 150 people in two specialities.

The first dean of the Faculty of Economics was Kurgan Viktor Panasovych (1977-1978).

At different times the faculty changed its names: at first it was the Faculty of Accounting and Finance, then – the Institute of Economics and Management, which included the Faculty of Economics and Entrepreneurship, later –  the Faculty of Management and Law. The duties of the Dean of the Faculty were performed by Holovko H.M. (1979-2000), Zhmailov V.M. (1999–2003), Strochenko N.I. (2000–2005), Zhmailova O.H. (2003-2012), Dubovyk S.H. (2006-2008), Slavkova O.P. (2008-2010), Strochenko N.I. (2010 -2022), Lyshenko M.O. (2022 to present).

In 2012, two faculties were united: the Faculty of Economics and Entrepreneurship and the Faculty of Management. As a result the Faculty of Economics and Management was formed, and Natalia Strochenko, Ph.D in Economics, Professor was appointed to be the Dean of the faculty.

In 1977, three departments were formed at the Faculty of Economics:

– organization and management of agricultural production – Ivan Briukhovetskyi, Head of the Department;

– economics of agriculture- Head of the Department – Kurgan Viktor Opanasovych;

– accounting and machine processing of information – Head of the Department Mykola Baranovsky.

Today there are 7 departments at the faculty:

– Economics and Entrepreneurship – Head of the Department, Doctor of Economics, Professor Svitlana Tereshchenko;

– Cybernetics and Informatics – Head of the Department., PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Svitlana Ahadzhanova;

– Marketing and Logistics – Head of the Department, Doctor of Economics, Professor Nataliia Makarenko;

– Management – Head of the Department, Doctor of Economics, Professor Alvina Oriekhova;

– Accounting and Taxation – Head of the Department, PhD in Economics, Professor Mykola Gordiienko;

– Public Management and Administration – Head of the Department, Doctor of Economics, Professor Olena Slavkova;

– Finance, Banking and Insurance – Head of the Department, PhD in Economics, Professor Mykhailo Geienko.

Training of specialists of all levels at the faculty is provided by the scientific and pedagogical staff of the departments of the faculty, which comprises 85 persons, including 15 Doctors of Sciences, 60 PhDs.

At the Faculty of Economics and Management as of 01.09.2019 510 full-time and 920 extra – mural students are enrolled. The Faculty trains 119 foreign students from Azerbaijan, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, India, China, Nigeria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan.

At the Faculty of Economics and Management there is a scientific school – Personnel support of the development of foreign economic activity of the agrarian sector of Ukraine under the conditions of economy globalization.

The winners of state, scientific domestic and foreign awards at the Faculty of Economics and Management are:

Stoianets N.V. Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Management, 2012 – Scholarship holder of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Danko Y.I., Doctor of Economics, Professor, Professor of the Department of Marketing and Logistics, 2013 – The winner of the Prize of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for special achievements of young people in the development of Ukraine.

Lozynska I.V., Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship, 2016 – Scholarship holder of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The International Master’s Degree Program in “Administrative Management” is accredited by Acquin, a European accreditation agency, and is being successfully developed in collaboration with the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Trizdorf (Germany).During the study each student has the opportunity of professional self-realization through: internship in the authorities and local self-government bodies, participation in scientific conferences, writing a master’s paper commissioned by the authorities with the subsequent introduction into the activities of the relevant entities, the possibility of entering the postgraduate study of the university.

Graduates of the specialty “Public Management agnd Administration” can work in public administration and local self-government, public organizations, international funds. The training will also be of benefit to anyone interested in gaining deep knowledge of public administration.
