The motto of the department is “… you own the world if you have the information, know how to model problem situations and make optimal decisions …”

The Department of Cybernetics and Informatics was established in 1977 as the Department of Accounting and Information Processing. In September 1986, the department was divided into the Department of Accounting and the Department of Information Processing Systems. In September 1992, the department was renamed the Department of Cybernetics and Informatics.

The founder of the department is Mykola Tymofiiovych Baranovsky, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Academician of the International Academy of Informatization, who headed the department from 1977 y. to 1992 y.

In 2019, the department received a license to train bachelors in the specialty 126 Information systems and technologies.
