Born on September 4, 1948 in the Kursk region.
He began his career in 1969 as an engineer of the radio navigation service of the Sumy United Air Force after graduating from the Rila Aviation School of the Civil Aviation Special Services.
In 1977, he graduated from the Ukrainian Correspondence Polytechnic Institute, majoring in “Automation and Telemechanics”; in 1996 – the National Law Academy named after Yaroslav the Wise, majoring in “Jurisprudence”; in 1997 – Kharkiv State Academy of Urban Economy, majoring in “Enterprise Economics”.
In July 2006, he defended his doctoral dissertation in the specialty “Organization of management, planning and regulation of the economy”. M. O. Sokolov was awarded the academic title “Professor of the Department of Economics”. Author of more than 135 scientific and methodical works.
From 1974 to 1990, Mykola Oleksandrovych worked in Komsomol and party bodies.
In 1990-92, he was elected the head of the organizational department of the Sumy Regional Council of People’s Deputies, managing the affairs of the Sumy Regional Executive Committee.
From 1992 to 2005, he worked as a deputy, first deputy head of the Sumy regional state administration.
From February 2005 to September 2007, Mykola Oleksandrovych Sokolov worked at the Sumy National Agrarian University as the director of the institute of postgraduate education and counseling, vice-rector for scientific and pedagogical work and economic issues.
From 2007 to November 2010, according to the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, he was on diplomatic duty, working as the head of the trade and economic mission of Ukraine in the Czech Republic.
Awarded the Order of the President of Ukraine, the Order of Merit III degree, the Order of the Badge of Honor, awarded the honorary title of Honored Education Worker of Ukraine. He has departmental awards of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, other ministries, state authorities of the country.
Elected deputy of the Sumy Regional Council from March 1998 to March 2006.
Married. Has two sons.
